This is somewhat a continuation of "She's a Jezebel." Marilyn Monroe brought on the thought for the previous blog and so I wanted to write this one.
Marilyn Monroe grew up a screw up. She was typecasted into the role of the "dumb blonde." She is STILL a sex symbol, decades after her death. She was nothing dumb though. She did what she had to to get places and places she got.
You could have it all and still be unhappy. Power, riches, money, stardom, houses, women/men... YOU COULD HAVE IT ALL. But none of this makes you happy. Is it all enough? When is it enough?
But that isnt the only reason why I bring her up. I bring her up because she was the leading lady in breaking society's rules. She was that "bad bitch." She was the original bad girl. Am I wrong? She blew up around the time when TVs were beginning to take a place in many people's living rooms. When radio was dying out. Don't get me wrong. Radio was still the main source of entertainment but Marilyn was everywhere. Posters, magazines, movies. SHE HAD IT ALL. This is what people are made to believe. Besides being known for pushing limits and breaking rules and walls of the orderly, she was not happy with it all.
I dont want to say I want it all. But I look at Marilyn's life and see all the things she did, all the things she had... The mark she left in people's lives. I want to leave a mark. I look at most of my relationships/friendships and I notice I like to leave marks. I want to be remembered. I wonder if Miss Monroe thought the same thing.
I also wonder if she broke the rules so society could change the fixation there was (and in many cultures still is) on machismo. Marilyn once said "I don't mind living in a man's world as long as I can be a woman in it." But I've always wondered what exactly she meant by it. Did she mean that we would never be equal? Did she mean there will always be double standards? Did she mean she wanted a man's world as long as she didn't have to abide by what men wanted from women?
The one thing that always stood out about this woman is that she never failed to shock people, to surprise them. Ive always been that way. I cant say I got it from her but I will say her mantras and ideas have shaped my mindset in many ways.
I just wonder if I have all the power, the riches, the men in the world... will I be happy? Probably not. What would it have taken to please the girl who had it all? What in all of the world had made her smile in teh few days she did? Or will it always be a front?

One of those newsmagazine shows did a special on "what brings happiness?" and they found, after surveying all the things you'd think, what really brought happiness was "hope for the future."
I don't think Marilyn Monroe was as dumb as she was portrayed. In fact, many of the women who were very successful for being "dumb beauties" are actually much smarter than we'll ever realize.
Idk but sometimes when I Anna Nicole Smith I think Marilyn Monroe. Yes they are two different beauties, but I thought of Anna Nicole of the modern day Marilyn. Especially when Anna Nicole died of OD like Marilyn it made my comparison come true.
Both are you are right.
Steph, I see exactly what you mean. I am not surprised when I see these "dumb beauties" in executive positions. I wouldn't be surprised if they used that quality to get to where they are. That would actually be a pretty smart thing to do. Exploiting the one quality people see firstoff to help you get into a more comfortable position? SHOOT ID DO IT! Lol
Trish, I def see what you mean on ANS being similar to MM. In many ways she was, but there are so much other ways that they weren't. But that's a discussion between us LOL
Hi Angeli,
Yesterday was crazy busy for me and Friday my blog wouldn't work, so I'm finally making it over here.
I don't know much about Monroe, but I def. don't think she was dumb and I def. don't think she was happy. She did leave her mark though. :-)
Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting!
