Steph's blog on music the other day made me think about one of my biggest pet peeves.
What stood out for me was the Top 40 commentary. Not a lot of rap songs there but yeah some are classified as rap because they are black artists. But my pet peeve comes from the good music died in the 80s/90s. Ill be the first to say that the music isnt the "same" but its supposed to change and evolve. We all change and evolve, why cant music? My problem here is that people arent listening to music but instead stuck in one genre. OF COURSE YOU ARE GOING TO SAY THE MUSIC SUCKS because that specific genre isnt being properly labeled. People who complain that hip hop is dead, stop complaining about what you listen to on the radio and search for underground artists who ARE HIP HOP ARTISTS. Like seriously. Stop the bullshit and look for the underground music. I think this is where I miss Myspace most. Myspace introduced me to underground artists of ALL genres. It was supposed to be a social networking tool for artists first and foremost and this is why Myspace grew popular. People wanted "good" music and searched for it. You have no idea how many artists are trying to make it and bands who have been signed thanks to Tom and his Myspace.
The point is you want something good to listen to, stop listening to mainstream radio stations and songs on YouTube and go looking for the brand new. Those bands on the sidebar of YouTube associated with a certain group, check them out. For all you know, YOU MIGHT JUST LIKE THEM!
My 2 cents.

VERY well put! I've heard that a lot and I wholeheartedly agree. Adele (who's actually quite popular now) is proof of that. There ARE people out there who are unique and very talented...and most of the time they aren't on mainstream radio. Adele's the rare exception, as was Michael Buble. Whatever your taste, there's new music being created every day that fits it, but you have to find it. People would rather complain and go back to their old standby -- music from childhood -- than explore new genres.
